Fin

Milled and mirror-polished stainless steel, with copper powdercoat
City of Vancouver Private Development Program
Privately owned

Fin was commissioned by Strand Development as part of their participation in the City of Vancouver's Public Art Program for Private Development. This public artwork consists of an abstract wall-mounted sculpture of a fin with a blue eye. It is made of milled and mirror-polished stainless steel, with copper powdercoat.
For the Haida Peoples of the North Pacific, Orca is represented frequently in visual iconography and oral literature. My lineage uses a two-finned Orca as one of our heraldic symbols. In this sculpture, the fin and eye are presented together and mounted directly next to a residential entryway. The sculpture is stainless steel and reminiscent of classic Haida jewelry practice. - MNY
